Retro Row Engagement Session in Long Beach, California
Some engagement sessions start with a vision.
Others start with a feeling.
For Lena and Will, it was both.
Retro Row in Long Beach, California is a popular location for couples looking for engagement photos with a vintage, urban feel and candid, movement-driven moments.
Lena first reached out after seeing an engagement session I photographed on Retro Row for Mio & Stephen (See those photos here). What drew her in wasn’t stiff posing or overly styled moments—it was the dynamic movement, simplicity, and candid way people in love were captured.
They wanted their own engagement photos to feel the same way: effortless, a little vintage, and true to who they are.
Why Retro Row Is Perfect for Urban, Vintage Engagement Photos
Located in Long Beach, Retro Row is one of my favorite spots for couples who want something cool, urban, and full of character. With colorful storefronts, textured walls, and a nostalgic edge, it’s the kind of place where you don’t need much direction—just curiosity and a willingness to wander.
For Lena and Will, Retro Row was the perfect backdrop for the vibe they were hoping for: urban, vintage, and relaxed.
We spent the session simply walking the area, stopping when something caught our eye, letting moments unfold naturally as we went.
“We’re Going to Be So Awkward”… (They Weren’t)
Both Lena and Will told me before we started that they were “definitely going to be awkward.”
They weren’t.
From the very beginning, they fell into an easy rhythm—laughing, moving, leaning into each other without overthinking it. The best moments happened in between: a glance, a shared smile, a quiet pause on the sidewalk.
This is always my favorite part of engagement sessions—when couples realize they don’t need to perform. They just need to show up as themselves.
Ending the Session at Bamboo Club
As the light softened, we wrapped up the session the best way possible—by grabbing a drink at the Bamboo Club.
Tucked away in Long Beach, the Bamboo Club added the perfect finishing touch to their session. It felt relaxed, playful, and very them. Ending engagement photos this way always feels right—less like a photoshoot, more like a date night documented.
Engagement Photos That Feel Like You
Lena and Will’s session is a reminder that the most meaningful engagement photos don’t come from elaborate setups or forced posing. They come from movement, trust, and allowing space for real moments to happen.
If you’re drawn to candid engagement photos, a vintage urban vibe, and imagery that feels effortless and honest, Retro Row in Long Beach is an incredible place to start.
