Charleston Wedding at The Cedar Room with an Italian-Inspired Rehearsal Dinner at Gadsden House

From an Italian-inspired rehearsal dinner to a candlelit reception in the heart of Charleston, every part of their weekend was designed with intention—creating space for their people to gather, connect, and fully enjoy each moment together.

An Italian-Inspired Rehearsal Dinner at Gadsden House

Tara and Jackson found me through a mutual friend from church, and from our first call, it was clear how much they valued not just beautiful photos—but the experience surrounding them.

Since this was a destination wedding weekend, they wanted to be fully present with their guests and create something that felt immersive from the very start.

We began at Gadsden House—a historic Charleston venue known for its timeless architecture, airy interiors, and understated elegance.

For the evening, the space was transformed into what felt like a night in Tuscany.

Lemon trees were placed throughout the space, Aperol spritzes were passed on trays, and long tables were set for a family-style dinner. Large bowls of pasta were shared, encouraging guests to slow down, pass plates, and stay present with one another.

Tara’s bridesmaids arrived in color-coordinated dresses in soft butter yellow and warm brown tones, adding to the layered, intentional design of the evening.

Dinner stretched on for hours—filled with conversation, laughter, and that rare kind of energy where no one feels rushed to leave.

It was the perfect beginning to a weekend centered around connection.

Getting Ready in Charleston

The next morning, the anticipation of the wedding day slowly unfolded across the city.

Jackson got ready at his family home in Charleston, surrounded by the people who know him best, while Tara and her bridesmaids spent the morning together at a beautiful downtown Airbnb.

There was an ease to the morning—nothing forced, nothing rushed. Just quiet moments, excitement building, and the kind of energy that makes a wedding day feel grounded before everything begins.

A Ceremony at Trinity United Church

The ceremony took place at Trinity United Methodist Church.

Like most weddings, the day came with a few unexpected moments.

The air conditioning in the church went out (and if you’ve ever experienced a Charleston summer, you know how significant that is), and a few elements for communion were briefly missing—leading to a short delay before the ceremony began.

But no one seemed to mind.

Guests remained patient, present, and fully supportive—just another reminder that the best weddings aren’t about perfection, but about the people in the room.

Once the ceremony began, it was incredibly meaningful. A moment of stillness in the middle of a full, joy-filled weekend.

Cocktail Hour in the Courtyard at The Cedar Room

Following the ceremony, guests made their way to The Cedar Room for cocktail hour and the reception.

Cocktail hour took place outside in the courtyard, which had been transformed into a lounge-style space with layered seating, soft textures, and bright pastel florals.

It felt relaxed, inviting, and intentional—giving guests space to gather and transition into the evening.

A Design-Forward Reception at The Cedar Room

Inside, The Cedar Room was completely transformed.

Green draping framed the space, while elaborate pastel floral arrangements brought in color and movement. A checkered dance floor anchored the room, adding a modern contrast to the historic architecture.

The entire design felt bold yet refined—perfectly balancing classic Charleston with a more editorial, fashion-forward approach.

As the evening unfolded, guests filled the dance floor while a live band kept the energy high.

At one point, both fathers were brought on stage for a dance battle—quickly followed by Tara and Jackson joining in themselves.

It was the kind of celebration that didn’t hold back.

A Night Full of Meaningful Moments

In between the energy of the dance floor, the night was grounded by heartfelt speeches shared over candlelight.

There were tears, laughter, and quiet moments of reflection—reminding everyone why they had gathered in the first place.

The evening ended with one final dance, surrounded by all of their closest friends and family, before Tara and Jackson ran through a tunnel of sparklers into the Charleston night.
